Bantam Mustangs finish 3rd at Select OBAUpdated Wednesday September 6, 2017 by Welland Minor Baseball.
Congratulations to the Welland Bantam Select Mustangs who finished third at the Select OBA Provincial Championships in Mississauga last weekend. The team exceeded expectarions and surprised the 12 team field with outstanding pitching and timley hitting.
The team defeated Mississauga in their own park 9-5 on the friday night. Saturday morning came and the team defeated Guelph 7-5 and then defeated a very tough Muskoka team 10-5 on the back of a very gutsy pitching performance by Ethan Collee.
The Saturday evening saw Welland having to forfeit as we were down to 9 players and one of our players was injured in the 2nd inning. Baseball Ontario granted them a replacement player that had traveled with the team for Sunday's game against Oakville.
Sunday was a tough game for the team as they ran out of gas and fell to Oakville and were eliminated.
This was a total team effort however there stand out performances. Amazing pitching by Ethan Collee, Matthew Roberts and Kyle Knight. Strong hitting by Carson Criddle, Jarod \Bilodeau and William Jones who was one of the top hitters in the tournament going 9 for 11 (.818 avg) and driving in 9 runs and hving the game winning RBIs in two of the three wins.
This team was comprised of house league players from Welland and Fort Erie and only played 20 games together, however bonded like no other team before. They finished with a record of 11 wins 8 losses and 1 tie a winning poercentage of .575
